CVC: – Central Vigilance Commission

The Central Vigilance Commission was set up by the Government of India resolution on 11 February, 1964 following the recommendations of the Committee on Prevention of Corruption, headed by Shri K. Santhanam. The commission main objective is to advise and guide Central Government agencies in the field of vigilance. The Central Vigilance Commission has been made a multi member Commission with “statutory status” with effect from 25th August, 1998 following the promulgation of an Ordinance by the President.

The houses of Parliament passed the CVC bill in 2003 and the President gave his assent for the Central Vigilance Commission Act, thus it came into effect from September 11, 2003. CVC has the given the status of an apex vigilance institution, charged with monitoring all vigilance activity under the Central Government of India, free of control from any executive authority,  advising various establishments in central Government organizations in  their vigilance work. CVC doesn’t perform investigations and the only investigation done by them is examining the Government Civil Works.  CVC is headed by Central Vigilance Commissioners and not more than two Vigilance Commissioners as members. The CVC is the designated Agency by the Indian government to accept on paper complaints for disclosure on misuse of office or any allegation of corruption.
